Detail of the Week

Scarves. Plaid, striped, floral...plain, tasseled, ruffled...tied around the neck, head, wrist, or handbag handle...LV, Burberry, Hermes...don't you just love scarves?

"The history of the scarf dates back at least as far as ancient Rome. A linen kerchief known as a sudarium (Latin term for “sweat cloth”) was used by the Romans to wipe their necks and faces. The ancient Romans developed the scarf into a diverse men's fashion accessory, whether knotted to a belt or worn around the neck. Of course this style was quickly adopted by women also, and the scarf has since become synonymous with women’s fashion." (source link here)

On a more fashion angle, scarves are a must—have and classic item, particularly now that Autumn has arrived! (though light weight ones are lovely in spring/summer) I love how they can take a boring outfit and make it vibrant, coordinate colors, and bring an outfit from casual and simple to elegant and sophisticated. French women are famous for their natural ability to don a scarf, last minute mind you, and wear it with such ease and style. Last night, I was watching "Le Divorce", starring Kate Hudson and Naomi Watts, in which there was a whole little scene, showcasing all of the elegant women in Paris and the many ways in which to style their scarves and shawls. Incroyable!

I felt so inspired to try some new looks, I went in search of different ways to tie, drape, and knot...I came a cross an amazing site! (Click here) This site illustrates over 40 ways to wear your scarves! I hope you feel inspired to try a few out! Also, as an added bonus, they offer special care instructions for silk scarves. Do you like to wear scarves, also?
