Statement art.  Not sure if that's what you would call it, but I just adore these amazing paintings and photographs.  They totally liven up a room, and add a splash of individual style that no Rothko ever could.  And while I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be with a self-portrait above my bed (a la Betsey Johnson), I'd love to figure out something like this for the living or dining room!
