I love how springtime has a natural way of calling birds back home. Yes, at 4:30 am they may not be as welcomed as they are at 3:00 in the afternoon, however, I do love hearing and seeing them return each year. Out back there are a few birdhouses that are on loan to families for the season. I think it's a beautiful thing, watching tiny baby chicks come into the world, while being protected and cared for by their watchful mothers...
For some reason, I could never have a bird as a pet, despite my appreciation for their beauty and song. I much prefer to appreciate them outside in the garden, in their natural habitat. However, I love the idea of using bird cages in a modern way in the home, particularly in spring and summer. On the floor, hung from the ceiling or on the wall, placed on a table, or even on the mantle —they offer an instant victorian and whimsy feel to a space. I've seen a few grouped together simply, and some lighting decorated with butterflies, flowers, nests or artificial birds. Perhaps they could also make a nice addition to your Easter table setting this coming weekend...
